Wenger urges Roy Hodgson to take Walcott to Euro 2016

Wenger urges Roy Hodgson to take Walcott to Euro 2016

Arsene Wenger believes two of his Arsenal stars, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, should be on the plane to France as part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016.

The Three Lions are poised to name their preliminary squad on Monday following the conclusion of the Premier League at the weekend.

And Wenger hopes that Walcott is picked despite the attacker’s lack of form over recent months for the Gunners.

He told reporters: ‘I think he should go. He has gone through a bad spell. He has had a difficult period but in the last month, he has come back very strong.

‘He could be a positive surprise for England. He will be here next season.’

The 27-year-old has scored just five Premier League goals this season in a campaign blighted by injuries and poor form.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Walcott but Wenger stills sees him a crucial player for next season.

Another Gunners star in contention is Wilshere, who has only just returned to action after missing the majority of the season through injury.

The 24-year-old is still thought to be a favourite of Hodgson and Wenger is confident the talented playmaker will be included in the 23-man squad.

‘He can start. He played 75 minutes against Man City. I haven’t decided yet but there is no reason why he shouldn’t be considered,’ he added.

‘Let’s hope until the start of the Euros it goes well for him. I expect him to pick him. He is an important player due to his passing qualities. It could be in his favour [barely featuring this season].’
