West Ham ready to meet Chicharito’s £13million release clause

Javier Hernandez could be on his way back to the Premier League after West Ham reportedly made a serious move for the striker.

The Manchester United cult hero has been plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and has been reminding many of his talents.

Hernandez was shipped out by former United boss Louis van Gaal, but has flourished in Germany in front of goal and with regular game time.

The Mirror claim West Ham have informed Leverkusen they are ready to pay his £13million release clause.

Hernandez has just 12 months left on his Leverkusen deal and has yet to agree a new contract with the Germans.

Leverkusen will not want the 29-year-old to walk away next summer on a free transfer and are reportedly open to the idea of cashing in on the Mexico international in the coming weeks.

Tottenham has been linked with Hernandez this summer and the striker is thought to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

Leverkusen are also rumoured to be pressured into selling one of their best players after missing out on European football last season.

West Ham watched Hernandez closely during Mexico’s run to the semi-final of the Confederations Cup in Russia.

Hernandez has an excellent record for Mexico with 48 goals in 94 games and has bagged 39 strikes in 76 appearances for Leverkusen.

West Ham have been busy in the transfer window in terms of bids and saw offers rejected for Cologne striker Anthony Modeste and Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu.

The Hammers are desperate to add a world class striker to their ranks and spent much of the 2016 summer window searching for a quality attacker.
