West Ham in talks to sign former Manchester United star Evra

West Ham are in line to sign free agent and former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, reports Daily Mail.

The 36-year-old full-back is free to play in the Premier League despite his UEFA ban for aiming a kick at a Marseille fan.

That altercation saw him sacked by the French side but he has been keeping his fitness up since.

Evra visited West Ham’s training ground on Tuesday as he moves closer to signing a deal.

As a result of his kicking incident, UEFA banned the defender from European competitions until the end of June, and fined him nearly £9,000.

He clashed with supporters before the game against Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal. After being subjected to jeers during the warm-up, the Frenchman went to confront the culprits.

An explosive pitch-side brawl ensued, with his kick reminiscent of Eric Cantona’s on a Crystal Palace fan in 1995. Evra was led away by team-mates but was then sent off by the referee before UEFA began an investigation.

Evra made over 300 appearances for United before departing the club after the 2013/14 campaign, the one season he played under Moyes.

He won the Premier League five times at Old Trafford as well as one Champions League title before departing England for Italian giants Juventus. In Turin, Evra won two Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

Back in December, sources close to the player said coming back to England was not a consideration for the former France international. Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbache had put their names forward as options for Evra, although no move materialised.
