Willian posts thanks on Instagram after Chelsea players dedicate Leicester win to him

Chelsea midfielder Willian has shown his appreciation towards his teammates after they dedicated their 3-0 win over Leicester City to him.

The club granted the Brazilian compassionate leave following the death of his mother, who had spent two and half years receiving treatment for a brain tumour.

Diego Costa and Eden Hazard both made a W gesture with their fingers in respect of Willian’s mother after scoring goals against The Foxes while all of the Chelsea team wore black armbands in remembrance of Maria Jose Borges.

Willian said, as reported by Caught Off Side: “I want to thank affectionately to all my family, friends and fans who have expressed their sympathy and condolences for my great loss. By gestures and words of comfort, and for the affection and attention that me and my family have had. God bless you all!”

Chelsea re expected to give Willian as much time as he wishes to grieve the loss of his mother and although Pedro and Victor Moses played well in his absence on Saturday, The Blues will be hoping that their player of the season last campaign can returned as soon as possible.

The 28-year-old was one of the very few consistent performers for Chelsea last season as they lost 12 games and drew 14. He scored some magical free kicks and was at times the only man contributing to progression in a season of turmoil.

Chelsea have an upcoming Premier League match with Manchester United and an EFL Cup round of 16 match versus West Ham United approaching.
