Woodward skips Man United tour to wrap up £95m double deal

Ed Woodward has not flown out with the rest of Manchester United to the United States, instead staying behind in England to wrap up deals for both Ivan Persisic and Eric Dier.

The Red Devils unveiled Romelu Lukaku on Monday in a deal that could reach £100 million if a number of clauses and targets are met, and Jose Mourinho has instructed the club to make as many as three more signings before the season starts.

And according to the Daily Mail, Woodward – who has joined the squad in previous trips – is continuing negotiations with both Inter and Tottenham for Perisic and Dier, though the latter will be more difficult to secure.

Inter are holding out for £48m for Perisic, though United feel a new and improved offer for £45m – their third bid for the Croatian – will be enough to finally convince the Serie A club to let their winger leave.

Perisic is currently taking part in Inter’s pre-season camp in Riscone di Brunico, and both clubs are keen for a deal to be concluded by next Tuesday.

That marks the date that Inter will fly out to China for the beginning of their own tour, and United are now ready to accelerate their transfer business after securing Lukaku, their priority signing this summer.

Mourinho is also desperate to land a new midfielder this summer, targeting a player with a more defensive skillset to compliment Paul Pogba and allow him to play with more freedom.

Tiemoue Bakayoko and Nemanja Matic have both been linked, though Chelsea are unlikely to deal with United after they hijacked their own deal for Lukaku.

Instead Dier, a boyhood United fan, is the player being lined up, though Tottenham have already told United that the versatile midfielder is not for sale.

Dier is thought to be open to moving to Old Trafford, though Daniel Levy has already rebuffed one offer and is ready to do the same with any other approaches from Woodward and United.
