Xavi reveals Guardiola is plotting a world record bid for Dele Alli

Pep Guardiola is keen to bring Tottenham star Dele Alli to Manchester City in a world record deal, according to Barcelona legend Xavi.

Alli, who cost Spurs just £5million from MK Dons in 2015, has become one of the hottest properties in world football, with the likes of Real Madrid interested in securing the England youngster’s signature.

But The Sun are reporting Guardiola is looking to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, with Xavi insisting his former Barcelona manager will have the financial resources to secure a player he sees a special talent.

‘I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players,’ Xavi said. ‘I am sure in the summer he will look also across Europe for players to improve the squad, but also I expect him to look in The Premier League as well.

‘At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.

‘Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play.

‘I am sure it is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources.’

Guardiola will end his first season in England without a trophy – the first time that has happened in his managerial career – after City were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal on Sunday.

City currently sit fourth in the Premier League as they bid to secure Champions League football, with a big test ahead on Thursday when they host rivals Manchester United.

Xavi, who played under Guardiola for four years and won 14 trophies, continues to play for Qatari side Al Sadd.
