Zidane confident Madrid can still turn things around

Zinedine Zidane voiced his frustration with Real Madrid’s performance in Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg, but believes they can still turn things around in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu and reach the semi-finals.

It was a disappointing outing for Madrid, who had basked in the glory of a 2 -1 Clasico victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou just four days previously.

First-half goals from Ricardo Rodriguez and Maximilian Arnold saw Wolfsburg send the visitors home empty handed, but the Frenchman refuses to throw in the towel just yet.

“I’m not happy with how the game went, especially the first half,” Zidane told reporters.

“That’s football, that’s how difficult it is. That’s what happens when you don’t play with intensity from the start. We have to rest and think about the return leg because we still have the chance to change everything.

“It wasn’t about a lack of confidence. We knew that we had a difficult game and we had one.

“We have 90 more minutes to try and achieve our objective. We need to be united and continue what we have been doing.”

The second leg at the Bernabeu takes place on Tuesday April 12.
