Zidane: Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s greatest player ever

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane believes that Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player in the Spanish club’s history.

Ronaldo was handed the award for a fourth time on Monday, as players, coaches and journalists voted for the Portuguese superstar to win ahead of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.

The 31-year-old finished last season as a European champion at both club level and with his national team, as Portugal won Euro 2016 in France, beating the hosts in the final.

Ronaldo is the leading man at the Bernabeu, and only trails Messi by one in the Ballon d’Or stakes now, while Zidane – who’s led the club to a record-breaking 35-match unbeaten run – rates the superstar as Real Madrid’s greatest player.

“He has amazing motivation. He always wants to win, even in friendly games or in training,” Zidane said (via Goal).

“Any player could come to Real Madrid and they will never achieve what he has. It’s not an exaggeration to say he is the best in Madrid’s history. And the four Ballons d’Or – chapeau. I think he’ll win it again.”

No player has ever scored more goals for Los Blancos than Ronaldo, who’s netted 376 in just 347 appearances in all competitions. Second on the list is Raul with 323 goals from 741 appearances, showing the scale of the Portuguese’s stunning record.
