Due to Barcelona’s challenging season, when things haven’t always gone as planned, Xavi Hernandez had to make the decision to leave the team at the end of the campaign.
Barça’s season has not gone as planned despite winning La Liga last season and strengthening the squad in the summer, and injuries have been a big factor in that.
In fact, Barça have been crippled by successive injuries to important players, which has left Xavi frequently without his starting lineup.
The Catalans have suffered yet another setback in terms of injuries, just when things were starting to look up in terms of health.
Marc Guiu injured
Indeed, teenage striker Marc Guiu has suffered an injury while playing for Barça Atletic this past weekend, reports SPORT.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut for Barça this season and has been a regular in the first-team squad list in recent months.
However, the La Masia product was in action for Barça Atletic this weekend, when they took on SD Logrones at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
A few minutes after replacing Mamadou Mbacke in the 72nd minute of play, Guiu was observed feeling his hamstring following a sprint.
The 18-year-old told the bench right away that he felt a “pinch,” but he had to finish the game because all of the substitutes had been utilized.
It has already been confirmed that Guiu is hurt. To determine the extent of the problem, testing will be conducted on Guiu today at the club’s training facilities.
Anxiety for Barcelona
Barcelona is concerned about this development because they will be missing Joao Felix and Ferran Torres for their next La Liga match against Granada.
In the meantime, Vitor Roque, who was sent off against Alaves, will also be suspended for the match. If Guiu is also out due to injury, Barça will only have Robert Lewandowski as a backup at No. 9.
It is important to keep in mind that while the Blaugrana intend to appeal Roque’s dismissal, there is no assurance that his suspension will be lifted.
