2022 WCQ: Maguire Sets England Goal Record In 10-0 Win Vs San Marino

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has broken Chelsea legend John Terry’s England record as the Three Lions thrashed San Marino 10-0 on Monday night.

The huge win secured Gareth Southgate’s side a spot in next winter’s World Cup in Qatar, with Maguire getting the scoring underway.

It has been a challenging season for Maguire since he helped England reach the final of last summer’s European Championships.

But he has had a better time of it when linking up with the national team, scoring against Albania, before taking his international goals tally for 2021 to five on Monday.

His latest Three Lions goal came just six minutes into the visit to minnows San Marino, the lowest-ranked team in world football.

Maguire fought off his marker to power home a header from Phil Foden’s corner to set England on their way to claiming the three points that ensured they topped Group I.

That header was his seventh in an England shirt, which means he is now the highest-scoring centre-back in Three Lions’ history.

Before the current international break, Terry and Jack Charlton had led the way with six goals apiece, with Maguire now moving ahead of both of them.
