Terry sad not to face PSG in Champions League decider

Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed his frustration after being ruled out of Wednesday’s crunch Champions League last 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain with a hamstring problem.

The Blues skipper, who has missed the last five games, was absent as Guus Hiddink’s men trained at their Cobham base on Tuesday morning. And hours later he took to Instagram to confirm he would be missing again as Chelsea attempt to recover from their 2-1 defeat in Paris three weeks ago.

Terry posted an image of Stamford Bridge on the social networking site, along with the message: ‘I’m gutted to be missing the PSG game.’It’s so frustrating missing any game, but these big Champions League nights at the Bridge are unbelievable and it hurts as a player not to be involved.

‘I have thrown everything at my injury trying to get back fit but sometimes you have to let the injury settle, and thankfully I’m on the mend and hope to be back soon.’

Terry suffered the injury during Chelsea’s 5-1 victory against Newcastle last month but Hiddink believes he could be fit to face Everton in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

Hiddink said: ‘I don’t think John will make Wednesday. Hopefully, let’s see what can be done for next weekend. He has to be careful.’

Striker Diego Costa was present at training after missing last Saturday’s draw with Stoke as a precaution due to a minor tendon problem. Kenedy (groin) and Pedro (hamstring) also took part.

Radamel Falcao, absent since October with a thigh problem, trained, but the striker is not in Chelsea’s Champions League squad.

The Blues are up against PSG for a third straight season in the competition. Chelsea won the quarter-final tie in 2014 on away goals, but were defeated at the last-16 stage by the same method last year.

Chelsea’s only defeat since the appointment of interim boss Hiddink was at Parc des Princes in the first leg on February 15, but John Mikel Obi scored a potentially vital away goal in that 2-1 loss.
