Real Madrid legend and Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has waxed lyrical about the performances of Keylor Navas, his successor between the sticks for Les Merengues.
“He’s looked simply phenomenal to me and I’m not surprised. I had the opportunity and good fortune to spend a whole year alongside him, although I was already aware of him when he played at Levante”, Casillas said in a Q&A with fans held through Facebook’s new live-video function.
“He’s having a wonderful season. I’m over the moon for him and fingers crossed things keep going as well for him as they have up to now”, added the Spain captain.
In his maiden season in Portugal, Casillas’s ‘Dragões’ have been knocked out of Europe early and find themselves adrift in the title race, leaving the domestic cup – in which they are through to the final – as their only decent chance of silverware.
Despite these disappointments, the former Real Madrid shotstopper said that he is “loving life” at Porto, stressing that he hopes to be there for “a long time” and to “give the fans something to shout about”.
