Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he made a promise to his grandfather that he would one day line up for Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old Gabon international has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season, netting an impressive 22 goals in 25 Bundesliga matches and 33 in 39 in all competitions.
That outstanding run of form has resulted in speculation linking him with a move elsewhere, however, Aubameyang dismissed rumours of a potential move to Real Madrid just last week.
But while he remains happy to stay at Dortmund for the foreseeable future, Aubameyang admitted that he does have ambitions to represent Los Blancos at some point in the future.
He told beIN Sports: “Real Madrid? There is no agreement but I promised my grandfather I would play there one day. Why wouldn’t I want to is cover new things? As I’ve said several times, I’d like to play in Spain and have good weather for once in my life!”
The former Saint-Etienne forward also rejected suggestions he could be tempted to return to Ligue 1 to join newly crowned champions Paris Saint-Germain.
“PSG are not my objective,” he said. “I can’t say any more. I don’t know why I have to go back to France when I left there three years ago.”
Aubameyang’s revelation will surely be well received in Madrid as the club are always on the lookout for world-class talent and given his form over the last couple of seasons he certainly falls into that bracket.
Aside from his impressive goalscoring form for Dortmund this term, Aubameyang has also proven to be an effective link man, providing five assists and creating 25 chances in total in the Bundesliga.
He would be expected to play a similar role at the Bernabeu, as their current No.9 Karim Benzema has proven to be an extremely useful foil for the free- scoring Cristiano Ronaldo over the last few years.
Although Real Madrid will be monitoring Aubameyang’s progress closely, they don’t particularly need a new striker as they have scored 83 goals in La Liga already this season, with Ronaldo, Benzema and Gareth Bale all in double
figures.
Aubameyang has scored 33 goals in all competitions for Dortmund this season.
