90th Minute-Winner Puts Liverpool Managerial Target Close To Breaking Incredible Record

Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso, with three games remaining are on the verge of breaking the record for the longest unbeaten streak in German football.

When Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield at the end of the season, former Liverpool midfielder Alonso is among the candidates to take over as manager. Since taking over in October 2022, Alonso has performed admirably in his first senior management position.

After defeating Stuttgart 3-2 in their quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Leverkusen advanced to the German Cup final four. And they are currently top of the the Bundesliga table.

And as extra time approached, centre-back Jonathan Tah nodded in to increase their winning streak to 30 games. They are just the second football team in German history to accomplish that in all competitions.

According to Daily Star, Bayern Munich the other team made it to 32, meaning that Alonso needed two more games to tie their effort and three more to surpass it. Leverkusen have scored 90 goals and won 26 games during their current run.

But on Saturday, February 10, they will welcome Bayern, who are currently only two points behind them, to the BayArena, which will present one of their toughest challenges to date.

Leverkusen scored a late goal in the 2-2 draw in the reverse encounter at the Allianz Arena back in September. In stoppage time in the second half, Exequiel Palacios converted a penalty.

In the event that they win, they would play away at Heidenheim, a team in the middle of the table, to tie the record. The following week, Leverkusen could break it at home against Mainz, who are in danger of relegation.
