Ronaldinho re-joins Barcelona as an ambassador

It’s been reported that Ronaldinho has re-joined Barcelona as an ambassador, as the Catalan giants look to enhance their growth overseas.

As reported by Goal, the 36-year-old will take up the role from September 6th when Barcelona open a new office in New York, coming back to the club after his successful five-year spell at the Camp Nou. Frank Rijkaard signed Ronaldinho back in 2003 from Paris Saint-Germain, as the Brazilian quickly became a football icon.

The attacker dazzled La Liga, picking up the 2005 Ballon d’Or award, while also earning an unlikely show of respect from Real Madrid fans at the Bernabeu in the 2005/06 season’s El Clasico, which Barcelona won 3-0, getting applauded as he was substituted following a stunning display.

Ronaldinho was instrumental that term, helping Rijkaard’s men win the Champions League over Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, before he left the club in the summer of 2008 for AC Milan. The former World Cup winner scored 94 goals in 207 appearances across all competitions at the Camp Nou; the best club goal tally of his career.

As for Barcelona’s exploits this season, they’ve made a perfect start under Luis Enrique, winning both of their opening games against Real Betis and Athletic Club.

The Catalans have scored seven goals and conceded two, creating 33 chances and with a shot accuracy of 52%, as they sit second just behind Las Palmas on goal difference.

Following the international break, Enrique’s men take on Alaves at the Camp Nou, before their opening Champions League fixture with Celtic.
