Terry: I will never forget what Ferguson did for me and my family

Chelsea captain John Terry has posted a photo on social media, thanking former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his help throughout a long football career.

It comes as a bit of a surprise that the 35-year-old central defender hasn’t praised a former Chelsea player or manager but Terry has instead paid tribute to the United icon for everything he has done for his family.

The picture on Instagram displays Terry meeting Ferguson as a young child but despite Terry being a boyhood United fan, the defender opted for a career at Stamford Bridge.

The pair had numerous battles throughout their careers but the most notable came during the 2008 Champions League in Moscow when Terry was handed the opportunity to win the trophy from the penalty spot, but a slip from the defender resulted in the Red Devils lifting the title.

Despite that disappointment, the former England captain is still one of the most decorated players in Chelsea’s history, winning four Premier Leagues, five FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League and Europa League once.

Terry, who was capped 78 times by England, has made 675 appearances for the west London club and despite rumours throughout last season that he would depart, the Blues’ skipper has played all three of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season, all of which they have won under Antonio Conte.
