Jose Mourinho has admitted he expects more from world-record signing Paul Pogba after Manchester United left Anfield with a point.
The Portuguese boss set his side up to frustrate Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp and he was delighted with his team’s defensive performance.
United only had 35% of possession – their lowest total in a Premier League game since Opta records began in 2003 – but Mourinho was generally satisfied with the way his team nullified the threat of Liverpool and their attackers.
But while he was happy to take a point, he insisted he expects more ‘penetration’ from Pogba going forward.
‘Had it been 1-0 it would have been finished,’ he said after the match.
‘Where Pogba was I was expecting more penetration.
‘Defensively we did really well, we should have had a little bit more. We had a big chance that I thought Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] was going to score.
‘[It was a] very difficult game for us and for them. More difficult game for them than us. We started really well and were in control.’
