Pep Guardiola believes it would be unfair to ask Sergio Aguero to be more like Luis Suarez, saying the Barcelona striker has a “quality” he can’t ask of the Argentine.
The Manchester City made his comments during a press conference ahead of the Group C fixture.
Guardiola’s side will play host to the Catalan giants at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening and will be out to get revenge.
In the away leg of the fixture Guardiola watched his former team stick four past the Citizens, hampering his new side’s hopes of progressing to the knock-out stages.
Speaking to the press, the Spanish boss said City need to approach the game as if it were a final before going on to discuss Aguero’s ability.
As you can see in the above clip his comments are rather cryptic when comparing him to Suarez and his words are not much of an endorsment.
He says: “The quality is Luis Suarez, I don’t want those qualities, Aguero has his own qualities. I want to help Aguero to achieve his huge qualities as much as possible.
“Suarez has a quality I can’t ask of Sergio. What Suarez does I can’t ask Sergio because it would be unfair. I want to build up Sergio’s quality and also his mentality.”
The Champions League clash will kick off at 7.45pm on Tuesday and if City can come out on top it will be the first time they have managed to do so in the club’s history.
