Alan Shearer believes Tottenham’s midfield quartet of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela need to up their games ahead of the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs take on their bitter rivals at the Emirates stadium with no win in six games in all competitions.
But according to the Independent striker Harry Kane will start the crucial fixture for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
This will be of huge relief to the White Hart Lane faithful as their side have only scored two goals in their last five games.
Lamela will miss the match through injury, while Sissoko serves the final games of a three-match suspension.
Nonetheless, Newcastle legend Shearer believes Tottenham’s midfield must do more to help their side going forward.
“They have to get more from their midfield players,” Shearer told Coral. “When Harry Kane is not playing, Eriksen has to chip in, Sissoko has to chip in, Lamela has to get in with more goals and Dele Alli has got to put more chances away.”
Alli has scored three goals in 14 games in all competitions this season while Lamela and Eriksen have scored two apiece in the same number of games, but Sissoko is yet to find the back of the net.
The Gunners can top the Premier League table if they are able to pick up all three points against their neighbours on home soil.
But, Tottenham can go level on points with their opponents on the table if they are able to secure an unlikely victory.
