Barcelona legend Xavi thinks Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho would ‘suit Barcelona’s philosophy’ amid transfer speculation.
Coutinho, who has already scored five times in ten Premier League appearances for Liverpool this season, has been tipped to join his good friend Neymar at the Camp Nou following his impressive form at Anfield.
Despite claiming that the 24-year-old is ‘playing at another level’ under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Xavi couldn’t resist admitting that Coutinho is one of a select few capable of improving the Spanish champions.
‘There are not many players that can improve Barcelona, but if you are asking me if he is one of them, on this form, I think he is. Technically he is very good. He would suit Barcelona’s philosophy well,’ Xavi told Goal.
However, the experience 36-year-old Xavi who won four Champions League medals and nine La Liga titles during his time at Barcelona, knows too well how speculation follows the most in form players in modern football.
‘When you play at the level he is there is always going to be talk, but for now he needs to ignore all that and stay focused, because I think Liverpool have a real chance this season,’ he added.
Coutinho, who took time out to visit Barcelona stars before their recent clash with Manchester City, is famously good friends with Brazil compatriot Neymar who previously echoed the words of Xavi.
‘I see many Brazilian players with quality today,’ Neymar said.
‘But one that I like and I think could play here is Coutinho. He has the style of Barcelona.’
