After the media pressed Luis Enrique to expand on Gerard Pique’s critical post-match comments at Real Sociedad, the coach suggested that they should not be taken too seriously, whilst aiming a broadside at his defender for the tone of his interview.
According to the Blaugrana boss, players are prone to carelessly selecting their words right after a bad result.
“Certain hot-headed comments come right after the final whistle,” Luis Enrique said.
“Don’t take them too seriously because on-field interviews are tricky and they dont always reflect reality.
“Players arent level-headed at that moment.”
The centre-back was collared as he left the field and criticised his team’s poor attitude once a microphone was thrust in his face.
“They [Real Sociedad] outplayed us and had a much better attitude.
“If we play like this, winning LaLiga will be very difficult.”
Despite undoubtedly dominating the first half, the Basque side had to wait 53 minutes for Willian Jose to score the opener.
