Genoa striker Giovanni Simeone has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to work under his father Diego at Atletico Madrid.
The striker hit a brace as Genoa beat Serie A leaders Juventus 3-1 at the weekend and stated that he would be open to a switch to the Vicente Calderon.
As reported by Football Espana, Giovanni Simeone told Cadena Ser radio: “I would love to play for Atletico.
“Not just because of how the club has treated my father but because of how they have treated our whole family.
“They are a great club, very humble.”
Simeone started his career at River Plate and, after a spell on loan at Banfield last season, has made a significant impact since joining Genoa in the summer.
Although he is raw in some aspects of his game Simeone has now scored four goals in eleven Serie A appearances this season and will seek to add to his tally if he features in Genoa’s Coppa Italia fourth round fixture against Perugia on Thursday.
Diego Simeone, who is widely regarded as one of the standout current coaches in world football, would surely love to sign his son but it remains to be seen whether a move will come to fruition.
