Man United close to signing £42m Lindelof as Benfica president jets in for talks

Manchester United are edging closer to a deal for Sweden defender Victor Lindelof after Benfica’s president jetted into England for talks with the Red Devils, according to reports in Portugal.

Lindelof, 22, has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Europe and Zlatan Ibrahimovic talked up his compatriot last month by claiming he’s ready to make the step up for a ‘big club’.

The Swedish international has 11 appearances for his country and the defender’s attracted interest from a host of European clubs following his performances for Benfica this term.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is in England today to discuss Lindelof’s move to Old Trafford.

Benfica are said to be holding out for a packaged £42m deal with United paying £37m up front for the defender.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have formed a surprisingly good partnership in recent weeks but Jose Mourinho is still determined to strengthen with Eric Bailly set to play in the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
