Along with FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Award, the FIFA FIFPro World 11 was also named at the glitzy gala in Zurich last night.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon D’Or 2016 last month – and has now made it a double of prestigious individual awards.

It was a trophy-laden year for Ronaldo, as he won the Champions League with Real Madrid, and followed it up by captaining Portugual to glory at the European Championships.

Ronaldo’s obsession with individual records and prizes is well documented, and he’ll be delighted to have gotten one over on Messi by scooping the first ever FIFA ‘The Best’ award.

One of the talking points from the show was the absence of the Barcelona players, four of whom were named in the FIFPro XI – Pique, Iniesta, Messi and Neymar.

Barcelona’s official excuse for failing to attend was their Copa del Rey game against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday – but Dani Alves isn’t buying it.

The Brazilian was in attendance as he now plays for Juventus, but he was left alone as the only Barcelona representative on the stage, and he felt let down:

‘They should have come. That’s my opinion. They’re more than prepared for Wednesday’s game. You have to respect their decision but they should have been here. I saw a lot of white and I felt bad.’ (Quotes via Marca)
