Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has sent a warning to his former club about selling want-away striker Diego Costa, insisting he’s the best striker in the league.
In a story that shocked the football world, reports emerged this week that the forward was considering a move to China and had a disagreement with boss Antonio Conte.
The Spain international’s scoring exploits in the Premier League this season have been vital to Chelsea’s title challenge, the 28-year-old has managed 14 goals in just 19 league appearances, propelling Conte’s men to the top of the league table.
Ex-QPR manager Hasselbaink believes Costa is key for Chelsea and even cast a doubt on the prospect of Chelsea winning the league title should he leave.
“It’s a difficult one. For Chelsea it’s a very important one – he’s the one scoring goals and leading the line.” He told Goals on Sunday, as reported by Goal.
“They played yesterday without him but I don’t see them playing 10 games in a row without him and doing that.
“He’s a very important player. I think he’s the best striker in the league at this moment, with how he is playing.”
