Gabriel Jesus: My time at Man City has gone better than expected

Gabriel Jesus admitted that his time at Manchester City has gone “much better” than expected, as he’s enjoyed a dream start under Pep Guardiola.

One of several summer signings at the Etihad, with Guardiola looking to reshape his squad, Jesus didn’t arrive in Manchester until last month, remaining at former club Palmeiras. However he’s since made a significant impact in City’s first-team, adapting to the rigours of the Premier League with apparent ease.

After seeing a goal ruled out for offside on his debut against Tottenham Hotspur in January, the 19-year-old has since played a massive role in the following two games, the latest of which came on Sunday afternoon. Jesus scored an important brace at the Etihad, as the Citizens beat Swansea City 2-1 in dramatic fashion.

With an incredibly bright future ahead of him, the Brazilian international admitted that things have gone better than even he expected so far.

“I have to say it’s going much better than I expected,” Jesus said (via Manchester Evening News). “When I spoke to some players that had already played in the Premier League, they said it was going to be very difficult. But I put in my head that by working hard, you can achieve your goals. That’s what I did and what I always do.

“I came, I worked hard every day and try to make my day matter. I am a bit surprised about my beginning here, but for the work I have done that’s what I expected. I play to win. I think all of us here think the same way. We need to believe in that.

“Take part in every competition and try to become the champions. Try to fight for the trophies, not only play the championship. I intend to win many trophies here.”

Jesus has scored three goals and created four chances in three Premier League appearances this term, with a shot accuracy of 50%, as City sit third on 49 points, 10 behind leaders Chelsea.

Next up for them is an away clash at Bournemouth next Monday, before taking on Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round at the Kirklees Stadium.
