Jose Mourinho has admitted that some Manchester United players have not earned his trust in the way that Marcus Rashford has with his performances and mentality this season.
The Portuguese has often been reluctant to hand opportunities to young players, and also has a reputation for a harsh man- management method on those who aren’t fully up to scratch.
However, Rashford has been a surprise in that regard this season by keeping his place in the United team despite not being as regularly prolific as last season.
The 19-year-old was man of the match in Thursday night’s win over Anderlecht, and Mourinho took the opportunity to praise the youngster for winning him over in a way that others haven’t this term.
‘Some players don’t understand what it takes for me to trust a player. Marcus, I trust. Whether he scores or doesn’t score,’ Mourinho said after the game.
‘It’s what I’ve been saying, his mentality. Because of what he gives us I have kept confidence in him.’
