Gabriel Jesus has blamed fatigue for his missing of a number of chances during Manchester City‘s draw with Middlesbrough.
Jesus netted an 85th minute equaliser in City’s clash at the Riverside on Sunday to earn Pep Guardiola’s men a 2-2 draw with their relegation-threatened opponents.
The finish is the Brazilian’s fourth Premier League goal in just six matches this season but the 20-year-old did have five shots against Middlesbrough – two of which were blocked while the other two were sent way wide of the target.
And, while delighted to find the net for City, Jesus believes that a lack of fitness after returning from a lengthy injury is behind his inability to score more than one goal this past weekend.
The young striker also admitted he had to check if he had been offside for his goal, having had a finish ruled out for the same reason against Manchester United in the week.
Jesus told the City official website: “After being out for three months, I am tired. In my case I am still not 100 per cent fit so I missed so many chances and I am sad for that.
“After my goal I looked at the assistant to check if it was offside or not. I am happy to have scored the goal but sad at the same time because we couldn’t get the win today.”
Jesus, despite his injury, has been excellent for City since completing his move to the club in January.
Having netted four times in six Premier League appearances the Brazilian has also created four chances, of which one was an assist.
The striker can also boast a very impressive 36.4% conversion rate although his shot accuracy is only at 45%.
