James’ stepfather happy wantaway star is leaving Madrid amid Man United rumours

With news that Real Madrid are to accept any offer of 75 million euros for James Rodriguez, the Colombian’s stepfather has stated that he’d be happy for the player to move on in search of regular game time.

Premier League giants Manchester United are said to be at the head of the queue for Rodriguez, who signed from Monaco in 2014.

“I’m sure James knows about how few minutes he’s been getting,” Juan Carlos Restrepo told Cadena SER. “I, as a father, prefer him to be a starting player in a different team than being a substitute at Real Madrid.”

Many pointed to the long goodbye Rodriguez gave to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu when being substituted against Sevilla on Sunday, and Restrepo gave his take on the moment.

“His gesture was one of gratitude to the Madrid fans,” he added.

The midfielder’s stepfather noted that he doesn’t consider Gareth Bale to be the block to Rodriguez getting into the Real team, as they offer contrasting styles.

“James gets into different areas of play, something you don’t get with Bale,” said Restrepo.

An emotional goodbye to the Real Madrid fans on Sunday night may well be James Rodriguez’s last appearance for Los Blancos after injury ruled the Colombian out of the midweek clash at Celta Vigo.
