Sergio Aguero is the greatest striker in Premier League striker, according to Richard Dunne and Martin Keown.
The Argentinian centre-forward etched his name into the history books once more as he became Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer after netting for the 178th time in their colours to seal a 4-2 win over Napoli on Wednesday night.
Following the final whistle at the Stadio San Paolo all the talk surrounded just how good the City star is.
The likes of Alan Shearer – the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer – and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry are widely considered as two of the best strikers English football has ever seen. However, both Keown and Dunne have a different opinion.
“Shearer’s stats are the best,” Keown pointed out on BT Sport. “But as an out-and-out footballer Aguero’s ahead of him.”
“I’ve played against Aguero, Henry and Shearer,” Dunne added. “For me him [Aguero] his low centre of gravity, the power that he’s got. When you try and close him down and try and push him, he moves the ball and his body so quickly and gets so much power in his shots.
“Henry’s obviously a top player but for me [Aguero] is physically stronger, I think he’s got more power in his shot and he seems to enjoy scoring more than Henry ever did.”
“It’s his change of pace from a standing start,” Keown said. “He wriggles out. You know what he’s going to do but you really can’t stop him.
“He scores important goals at vital times for them.”
Breaking the City record in the same stadium which Argentina royalty in Diego Maradona made history for Napoli will certainly fill Aguero with even more pride and he’ll be looking to add to his goal haul against Arsenal at the weekend.
