Luis Suarez returns to Liverpool…on day off from Barcelona

By John Marshall

He may no longer be a Liverpool player but it’s clear that Luis Suarez still holds the Merseyside outfit close to his heart and, with Barcelona not playing until Saturday, the Uruguayan striker has used his time off to visit his former side and watch them train.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to reveal Suarez’s presence at their Melwood training ground.

Accompanied with the caption: ‘Special visit at Melwood this morning !!’ Sakho can be seen beaming as he is reunited with his former team-mate.

And speaking about his visit to Melwood afterwards, Suarez told the Reds’ official website it was because Liverpool are ‘so important’ to him.

‘It was fantastic to see the lads. The people that work here are really nice and I miss them, so I wanted to come and see some friends. I have really good friends here,’ he said.

‘I had a really good moment here in three and a half years and when you have a really good moment in your life, it is something you remember.

‘I always try to watch the [Liverpool] games and look out for the results. I am very interested in how Liverpool are doing because they are so important in my life.’

Suarez swapped the Anfield outfit for Barcelona in a £75million deal in the summer of 2014 – having scored 82 goals in 133 games following his arrival from Ajax in January 2011.

The 29-year-old has since excelled in Spain and played a significant role in his debut season at the Catalan club as they won the Treble.

The forward has added to that success with UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs, with Barca on course to win more silverware this term.
