Confident Lascelles fancies Magpies chances at Stamford Bridge

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles is confident the club can gain a positive result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Magpies last away game ended in an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at Leicester, a result that Lascelles blasted as “terrible”, but they bounced back from that loss in style by securing a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at St James’ Park to move them out of the Premier League relegation zone.
It doesn’t get any easier for Newcastle after the international break, as they will take on Frank Lampard’s Chelsea this weekend, with the Blues having won four games on the spin, scoring 15 goals in the process.
The west Londoners have also won five of their last six meetings with Newcastle, with the Magpies’ last victory at Stamford Bridge coming in May 2012 when a Papiss Cisse brace sealed a 2-0 win.
Despite their poor recent record against Chelsea, Lascelles believes his side will head to west London full of confidence following their victory over Man United and he feels they are more than capable of claiming a positive result against what is a young and relatively inexperienced opponent. “They’re a young side with not much experience in there. We’ve been working really hard this week and we’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be a tough game but we do fancy our chances,” Lascelles told the club website. “We’re still going off the last game. We beat Man United at home and there’s no reason why we can’t beat Chelsea. We’ve still got the confidence from the last game and hopefully we can go and do the same job.”
Newcastle have already won in London this season, as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Tottenham back in August, with their only two successes of the campaign having come against traditional top-six sides.
The Magpies have also not won back-to-back league games since April, but a victory on Saturday would give them a boost ahead of a more favourable run of fixtures over the coming weeks.
