Bale and Tottenham should reunite – Allen

Former Tottenham forward Clive Allen says Tottenham should try and re-sign Gareth Bale in the January transfer window. The Welshman departed north London six years ago when Madrid signed him for a then world-record £85million fee.
Bale had blossomed at Spurs – despite making a poor start to his White Hart Lane career – and only became a household name once Harry Redknapp moved him up the field from left-back and turned him into a left winger.
He scored 21 times in the Premier League in his final season which convinced Los Blancos to make their move.
The 30-year-old’s time at Madrid has been mixed although he has won four Champions League trophies and also the La Liga title in 2017.
The Bernabeu faithful have never quite taken to him in the same way they did Cristiano Ronaldo and further pressure has been placed on his shoulders as boss Zinedine Zidane is seemingly keen to get rid of him.
However, despite Bale and Zidane’s relationship not being in great shape, he has played six La Liga games this season, scoring two goals.
Allen, who was part of the coaching team at Spurs under Redknapp, is unconvinced Bale has a long-term future in Spain and says Tottenham should make a move to re-sign him because he would offer them something different. “I would, yeah. I would because I think he could provide something that no one else can,” said Allen. “That is something you can never underestimate, you add a player of that ability to your team, it’s not only a talent, but it lifts everybody else in the club as well.”
Bale has featured heavily this season because Zidane’s other options have been largely unavailable.
Eden Hazard, thought to be the natural successor to Bale, arrived at the club injured and unfit, while Luka Jovic has also got off to a slow start.
However, speculation is still rife regarding Bale’s future with Manchester United and Bayern Munich among those linked. He came close to joining Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning a few months ago before the plug was pulled on the deal late on.
