Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre is targeting three points against a “dangerous” Borussia Monchengladbach side this weekend. BVB will head into the Westfalenstadion clash sitting in eighth place in the Bundesliga standings, while Gladbach are top of the tree.
However, Dortmund are just four points behind Die Fohlen and hold the proverbial Indian sign over Saturday’s opposition.
The men in yellow and black have won their past eight Bundesliga meetings with the Borussia-Park outfit and will be favourites to maintain that record this time around.
Favre is desperate to take all three points although he also knows Marco Rose’s men have found a method of playing that is reaping rewards. “Gladbach are a dangerous team who play attractive football,” he told the club’s official website. “They’re very strong when it comes to counter-pressing and they have a lot of power going forward. Good work has been done there for some time.”
In an unusual-looking Bundesliga table, Bayern Munich are currently third, level on 14 points with Freiburg, RB Leipzig, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen, with Wolfsburg second on 15.
However, it would be a brave man to bet against the Bavarians hitting their straps on a more consistent basis and opening up a gap before the German winter break.
Dortmund are Bayern’s traditional rivals and Favre’s comments that his side “absolutely want to win on Saturday” suggests he knows that he cannot allow those above with genuine title ambitions to stretch too far ahead – even at such an early stage of the campaign.
