Sean Dyche will have to do without the services of winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson as his side prepares to face Leicester City on Saturday. Gudmundsson came off early on in Iceland’s 1-0 Euro 2020 qualifying defeat to France last week with a hamstring injury and won’t feature in the weekend’s encounter against the Foxes at King Power Stadium.
Dyche said on Thursday at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to the East Midlands: “Johann Gudmundsson won’t be figuring. “Unfortunately he got injured on international duty, a reasonably serious hamstring injury, so it certainly won’t be days, it will be more like weeks and I don’t know how many yet, but it’s serious enough to speak in that way.”
Dyche also revealed former Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater, on loan at Burnley from Chelsea, is “making progress but not quite there” with regards to his recovery from an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, a late call will be made on midfielder Jack Cork, who missed the 1-0 victory over Everton last time out due to a shoulder issue, and also forward Ashley Barnes (groin) ahead of Saturday’s match.
Full-back Erik Pieters, who came off injured against Everton, looks set to be available after he trained this week.
The contest at King Power Stadium is a clash between two sides who have made decent starts to the Premier League season.
Leicester, under Dyche’s former colleague Brendan Rodgers, are fourth in the table, three places and two points better off than the Clarets, whose last four games have seen them win two and draw two.
The Foxes are expected to be able to call on the services of playmaker James Maddison after he recovered from a bout of illness that saw him forced out of the latest England squad.
Rodgers has backed Maddison after the player was seen in a casino after his withdrawal from the Three Lions camp and he will be hoping the former Norwich star can continue to deliver on the field.
Matty James continues to be Leicester’s only long-term absentee ahead of the arrival of the Clarets.
