Janmaat wants extended Watford stay

Watford full-back Daryl Janmaat says he would like to extend his stay at the club after getting back into first-team contention. The Dutchman had spent a while out-of-favour with Spanish defender Kiko Femenia taking his place at right-back.
He only figured in 22 matches in all competitions last season, starting just 17 times in the Premier League.
However, this season, he has begun to win his place back with the arrival of Quique Sanchez Flores for his second spell greatly assisting his cause.
The ex-Newcastle defender was restored to the starting XI for their match against Newcastle at the end of August and has played every top-flight match since, helping the Hornets keep their first clean sheet in the Premier League since February, in a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United last time out.
Janmaat is out of contract at the end of the season but his renaissance in the team suggests a new contract might be on the horizon.
The 30-year-old admits he found it difficult not to be playing last season but is confident he will extend his stay after beginning to feature more at Vicarage Road. “It was really difficult,” said Janmaat. “Of course you want to be used, I was fit all the time, but the coach made some different changes and you have to accept that. “I’m happy that I was back in and hopefully I can stay now. I want to stay and hopefully, I can sign a new contract, but we will see.”
Watford are hoping to grab their first win of the season against Tottenham when they travel to their new stadium on Saturday.
It has been a very difficult start to the campaign for the side who reached the FA Cup final last season.
They were hammered 8-0 by Manchester City in Flores’ second game back but have shown signs of rejuvenation after drawing 0-0 with Sheffield United on October 5.
