Shapovalov ends wait for maiden title

Denis Shapovalov ended his wait for a first career title after he defeated Filip Krajinovic in the final of the Stockholm Intrum Open. The 20-year-old Canadian Next Gen starlet, who has already secured himself a place in the 2019 edition of the Milan Next Gen Finals, earned a break in the the third game of the first set. And, while Shapovalov had other chances to break his Serbian opponent, the one was enough to take the set and go ahead. Krajinovic failed to take his only break point of the match in the fourth game of the second set, before Shapovalov got the breakthrough in the ninth game. He then held his serve to wrap up a 6-3 6-4 win and afterwards said: “I am definitely super happy and just really proud. Me and my team have worked very hard to get into this position of lifting a title, so I am really proud of myself and of my team right now.”
