Schalke custodian Nubel relishing Dortmund derby date

Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel is relishing this weekend’s Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund as they look to bounce back from the Hoffenheim defeat. David Wagner’s side had the chance to move to the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday but blew the opportunity after crashing to a 2-0 defeat in Sinsheim.
Instead they sit in seventh position, just two points adrift of the early leaders Borussia Monchengladbach after the opening eight games.
Rivals Dortmund are one point and three places better off than Schalke in a congested top-half of the standings so will be overtaken if Die Konigsblauen can secure the win at the Veltins Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Nubel, who played in his first derby in last season’s 4-2 win at Dortmund on April 27 and he is looking for more of the same as the players look for an immediate response to the defeat at Hoffenheim.
The 23-year-old has warned that Dortmund have “a very good team” and highlighted the threat of Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus, but he is hoping Schalke can find an extra edge to secure the win.
He told the club’s website: “We’re going to need the sort of passion and mentality that we have already shown in a lot of games this season. “Nevertheless, we don’t want to get carried away. We will need to remain calm and focused despite all the emotion if we want to get a result. We also know we can rely on the fans to support us and give us an extra boost!”
