Monaco could seal cut-price Slimani deal

Monaco could complete the permanent signing of on-loan Leicester forward Islam Slimani for as little as £7.8million, according to reports. Algeria international Slimani joined Monaco on a season-long loan deal from Leicester during the summer and has impressed during his short time at the Stade Louis II, scoring five goals and setting up a further six in his seven Ligue 1 appearances to date.
That kind of form is likely to make Monaco keen to sign Slimani on a permanent basis and reports in France are claiming Les Rouges et Blancs have an option to buy the 31-year-old for a quarter of the £29million Leicester originally paid Sporting Lisbon in 2016.
That means the fee would stand at £7.8million although Leicester insiders are believed to have disputed that claim as they insist the agreed fee should be considerably more
It does not appear Slimani, whose contract with Leicester is due to expire in 2021, will be returning to King Power Stadium anytime soon.
He has also spent time out on loan at Fenerbahçe and Newcastle, with neither Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers or his predecessor Claude Puel seeing him as someone to utilise in the Premier League.
However, Slimani seems to have found a home at Monaco, with his most recent goal coming during Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Rennes, a result that lifted Leonardo Jardim’s side out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone.
