Atletico Madrid are plotting a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria but will face plenty of competition. Zakaria has been an ever-present for early Bundesliga pacesetters Gladbach this season, playing the full 90 minutes in all eight of their league games.
The Switzerland international is in his third season with the German club, having joined from Young Boys in his homeland, but could be set for a move away.
Reports in Germany claim Atletico Madrid have joined a huge list of suitors for the 22-year-old defensive midfielder.
Bayern Munich have been linked with Zakaria at regular intervals and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be keen.
Serie A side Inter Milan have been tipped to make a move and there is apparent interest from the Premier League, with Tottenham and Manchester United believed to be keen.
Gladbach are unlikely to entertain any offers for Zakaria in the January transfer window and will be keen to tie him down to a new deal in the coming months.
He is due to fall out of contract in 2022 so if Gladbach can’t convince him to agree fresh terms this season, they may well be open to offers next summer to avoid the risk of losing Zakaria as a free agent.
Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on his situation in Germany and could launch a move if he doesn’t extend his deal at Borussia Park.
