Scott Barrett has been selected ahead of flanker Sam Cane for New Zealand’s Rugby World Cup semi-final against England on Saturday. All Blacks coach Steve Hansen made the surprise decision to pitch 25-year-old Barrett into the back row or the first time in a Test given that he usually operates as a lock. Barrett’s older brother, Beauden, will continue at full-back, while Richie Mo’unga again features at fly-half for the last-four showdown in Yokohama. Meanwhile, Hansen played down England coach Eddie Jones’ claims that all the pressure is on the All Blacks given that they are reigning champions and have won the previous three meetings at the World Cup. He said: “The reality is both teams have got pressure on them, different types of pressure. “We are going to attempt to win this game, and if we do, we will be attempting to do something that has never been done before. That brings its own pressure, as Eddie has highlighted. “But then you have got a team that has come out of a previous tournament having not been as successful as they wanted to be. They have built themselves up for four years to do this job, and that brings its own pressure, a different type of pressure, but still pressure.”
