Wilder warns Blades not to rest on their laurels

Chris Wilder says Sheffield United can’t think they’ve made it in the Premier League just because they beat Arsenal on Monday night. The Blades have made an impressive start to life back in the Premier League but enjoyed a particular high point earlier this week when they got the better of the Gunners.
Lys Mousset’s first-half strike was enough to secure a famous 1-0 win over the north London outfit, a result which lifted the South Yorkshire side into the top half of the table.
Wilder was full of praise for his players following the win, insisting they aren’t afraid of anyone in the top flight, but has moved to make sure the squad keep their feet firmly on the ground with another 29 matches still to play.
The ex-Oxford United and Northampton boss is keen to move on from Monday’s triumph and focus on Saturday’s encounter with West Ham, believing they have to “strive for more” when it comes to Premier League success. “I think we’ve had to be at it for the last three years – we haven’t got this far without being on the top of our game every week,” Wilder said.
The Blades boss says a trip to West Ham poses a different kind of challenge to the one faced when up against Arsenal, tipping the Hammers to mount a push for the top six this season.
Sheffield United will go to the London Stadium unbeaten on their travels so far this season though, picking up a point at Chelsea and a win over Everton on the road thus far.
Wilder has warned his players they’ll need to be at the top of their game to get a result while dismissing suggestions the fixture will have an added edge to it in the first meeting between the clubs since the controversial Carlos Tevez saga of 2007.
Wilder said: “There’s a lot of water gone under the bridge since and it’s a long time ago. I’ve always got a big admiration for West Ham with the way they’ve gone about it in the past.”
