Muller brushes off January speculation

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has laughed off reports claiming he is ready to leave the club in the January transfer window. Germany international Muller has only made three Bundesliga starts this season and there are claims he is becoming disillusioned with life at Allianz Arena, where he has spent his entire professional career.
Premier League outfit Manchester United, who are struggling domestically this term, were believed to be weighing up an offer for the 30-year-old and there were strong reports the Red Devils were leading the race for his signature.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who guided his side to a narrow 1-0 Europa League win at Partizan on Thursday evening to move top of Group L, is said to be a firm admirer of the German and was eager to tie up a deal to strengthen his attacking options.
However, Muller started Bayern’s 3-2 Champions League victory at Olympiakos on Tuesday evening, the first time he has been named in the first 11 in the competition this season, and he dispelled rumours about a potential January exit after the game.
He told reporters: “I try to focus on playing football and gradually all the speculation will die down a bit.”
Muller’s comments come after remarks ex-Bayern manager Ottmar Hitzfeld made earlier this month, where he played down the possibility of the forward leaving in the coming months.
He told Goal: “Thomas Muller at another club is hard to imagine for me. He is an absolute identification figure for Bayern.”
The Bavarians return to Bundesliga action on Saturday when they play host to Union Berlin, who are 14th in the table and head into the contest on the back of a 2-0 home win over Freiburg.
