Mullins ‘alert’ and ‘moving’ after Thurles fall

Grand National-winning jockey David Mullins is said to be “comfortable” in hospital after a bad fall at Thurles on Thursday. The 23-year-old, who won aboard Rule The World at Aintree in 2016, fell at the fourth fence when riding Lean And Keen for Sean Bryne in the www.thurlesraces.ie Handicap Chase. There was a 30-minute delay in the schedule to allow an air ambulance to land on the track, with Mullins taken to Cork University hospital for treatment. There has since been an update from Dr Linsey Mason via the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board account on Twitter. It read: “David Mullins has been airlifted to Cork University Hospital for further investigation following a fall in the second race. “David was alert, speaking, moving all limbs and comfortable leaving @thurlesraces.” The short statement added: “The IHRB would also like to acknowledge the rapid response of the Air Ambulance Service.”
