Newcastle v Wolves team news

Newcastle will be without striker Andy Carroll when they host Wolves at St James’ Park on Sunday. The nine-times capped England forward, who rejoined his boyhood club in the summer after being released by West Ham, suffered a groin strain in last weekend’s away clash at Chelsea.
He came off the bench with 20 minutes to go but picked up the injury in his cameo and is out of the game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Fabian Schar is also unavailable for selection and could be out for a bit longer than Carroll, although neither player is expected to be out for a lengthy period.
Switzerland international Schar has been struggling with a knee issue for some time and will not be considered despite making it through the Chelsea game.
Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune are both closing in on returns from ankle and knee ligament injuries respectively, but the Wolves game will come too soon for the duo.
However, Steve Bruce does have some good news as Isaac Hayden has completed his three-match ban.
The ex-Arsenal trainee was sent off in the 5-0 thrashing by Leicester last month but might have some work to do to get back in the midfield, given how impressive the Longstaff brothers, Sean and Matty, have been in his absence.
Wolves arrive into the game on the back of a Europa League 2-1 victory against Slovan Bratislava on Thursday, having recovered from a goal down.
Ryan Bennett missed that win with a groin problem and is expected to sit out the action once again.
Pedro Neto is also absent with a hamstring injury, though Nuno does have some selections to ponder before Sunday’s game.
Ruben Neves could be recalled after being left out of the Euro clash, while Jesus Vallejo is also an option in defence.
Wolves are in excellent form heading to St James’ Park and are currently unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, while Newcastle will be aiming to escape the bottom three with a win.
