Federer wins historic Basel title

Roger Federer has won the Swiss Indoors Basel title for the tenth time after a comprehensive win over Alex de Minaur. The Swiss ace had turned professional before his young Australian opponent was even born and his experience showed out on court as he emerged a 6-2 6-2 victor. Federer sealed the win inside one hour and eight minutes to extend his unbeaten record in the competition to 24 matches. It is his 103th ATP title in what is another step in a truly astonishing career. De Minaur was aiming to win his fourth title in what has been an excellent year in his burgeoning career but could do nothing to stop Federer. The world number three broke in the fourth game with a well-controlled overhead and the Aussie had no response. A great forehand and an ace down the T-line helped him move three games clear. There was no comeback in sight for De Minaur, who was hoping to become the first Australian winner of the trophy since its inception in 1970. Instead, Federer won for a tenth time and made it five from the last six years.
