Hernandez demands ruthless edge

Norwich City’s survival will be determined by their ability to take their chances, admits Onel Hernandez. The Canaries topped the Championship standings last term and appeared to take to life in the top flight with ease, beating Newcastle 3-1 before backing it up with a shock 3-2 success over Manchester City.
That victory over the Citizens on September 14 marked the last time Daniel Farke’s men won in the league, while they have drawn just once, a goalless affair at Bournemouth on October 19.
Norwich are now facing up to what could be a long winter, sitting 19th in the table following Sunday’s 3-1 home reverse to Manchester United.
Things could have proved much worse, with goalkeeper Tim Krul saving a pair of first-half penalties to keep the scoreline down.
A knee injury has prevented Hernandez from having a significant part to play this season, having played a leading role in last season’s promotion but he returned against the Cherries and had a decent say on Sunday.
The Cuban netted his first goal in the top flight, coming off the bench at half-time before firing home in the 88th minute.
Earning a start at Brighton will now be his aim when the Canaries head to the south coast on Saturday, the beginning of a winnable run of games that also sees them take on bottom club Watford and 16th place Everton.
Hernandez says his team need to reset their approach to their task, admitting that they must start being more ruthless all over the park if they are to stay in the Premier League for more than a season. “We are not in the Championship anymore, we are in the Premier League. Every chance that we have, we have to take it,” he told the club’s website. “If you don’t, the other team will take their chance and you’ll end up behind. “We are thinking too much about the last games, like our win over Manchester City. This is over now. We have to stick together and work hard because we want to stay in this league.”
