Everton star throws his support behind Silva

Everton defender Mason Holgate has thrown his support behind manager Marco Silva after they were beaten by Brighton at the weekend. The Toffees lost their third game in four matches, despite controlling large parts of the clash at the AMEX Stadium. Brighton took the lead through Pascal Gross, but an Aaron Webster own goal gave Silva’s men a way back into the tie.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin thought he had grabbed the winner in the 74th minute, but a Neal Maupay penalty and a Lucas Digne own goal ensured Graham Potter’s men claimed all three points.
Everton were also dealt a blow after Bernard suffered a medial ligament injury after 30 minutes and he now faces a long spell on the sidelines.

After spending heavily in the summer, Silva had been hoping to guide his team towards the top six, but they are now 16th after picking up 10 points from as many matches.
There has been speculation the former Hull City and Watford coach’s position is under threat in recent weeks, but Holgate says he and the squad are firmly behind the Portuguese tactician.
He told Sky Sports: “A hundred per cent. I think it shows by the last two performances we’ve put out. “We’ve not been happy with our results, but I think the result last week lifted spirits. Like I said, there’s a huge turning point in the game that when you’ve not got your luck, things like that happen. But we’ll keep going, we’ll get together again, we’ll lift ourselves.”
Everton’s fixtures may give them confidence though, with Silva set to welcome former club Watford to Goodison Park. The Hornets remain bottom of the league, while Southampton are also on the horizon and Everton will fancy their chances after they lost 9-0 to Leicester City. Norwich will also head to the north-west before the end of November, but Silva remains under pressure for now.
