Liverpool midfielder James Milner says he is hopeful he will be able to extend his stay with the Premier League frontrunners beyond the current campaign. The former Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City utility man continues to be an important figure in Jurgen Klopp’s squad despite his advancing years.
Now 33, the veteran is looking to help the Reds end their wait for a maiden Premier League title, with the Merseysiders currently holding a six-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Milner’s future as he approaches the end of his contract, which expires this summer.

Despite recent rumblings of a potential return to boyhood club Leeds, Milner says he is enjoying life at Anfield and would be happy to extend his stay with the Reds.
He told the Guardian: “Someone said to me a few years back that I’m going to have to rein it in in training and look after myself a bit. I didn’t agree. I felt that the more I pushed myself then the higher level I get in terms of fitness. “I still feel very good and no different to what I did six years ago. My contract with Liverpool is up at the end of the season but hopefully we’ll sort something out. I want to keep going as long as possible at the highest level.”
Milner could well be in the thick of the action for Liverpool’s next outing as they prepare to host Arsenal in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
The Reds have already beaten the Gunners at Anfield this season in the Premier League and will be looking for an early double over the north London outfit, who have struggled on their travels of late.
