Wolves showing great strength – Doherty

Matt Doherty believes Wolves have already proved their staying power during their marathon season. Wolves’ season started on July 25 as they went up against Crusaders in the first leg of a Europa League qualifier and the early beginning to the 2019/20 campaign was having an impact on Premier League results.
The Black Country outfit lost their first three games in September, going down to Everton and Chelsea in the league before losing their opening Europa League group stage match at home to Sporting Braga.
However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been hitting form in recent weeks and Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United, a game the visitors should have won based on chances created, extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games.
Wolves will be playing their 21st game of the season when they travel to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup on Wednesday and Republic of Ireland international Doherty believes have shown fantastic determination this term. “We’ve played 20 games this season and only lost three times, so we’re obviously hard to beat,” he told the club’s official website. “If we can put the ball in the back of the net more, we’ll win a lot of games and we need to do it. “The more games you play, the more you stay unbeaten fills you with confidence. We’ve got Aston Villa then we go to Arsenal, so the games come thick and fast and we’re prepared.”
Wolves will definitely be without the services of defender Willy Boly after he suffered a broken ankle in training before the trip to St James’ Park at the weekend, which is expected to keep him out for several months.
Fellow defender Ryan Bennett is a doubt with a groin injury but forward Petro Neto has returned from a heel problem and he could be handed a start, having come off the bench against the Magpies and impressed.
